1984 G1 Transformers Camshaft is an Autobot Omnibot released in 1984 as a mail-order exclusive. Originally based on Takara’s Diaclone line, the toy transforms into a detailed Mazda RX-7 Series 2 and includes a neutron blaster and two rockets. Camshaft also features a unique third “assault mode” that shortens the vehicle body and activates a spring-loaded missile launcher from the rear.
Camshaft was available through Hasbro and Takara mail-away promotions in the United States and Japan, making him a relatively distinctive vintage G1 release. In Japan, the Camshaft and Downshift names were swapped, likely because the Mazda RX-7 uses a rotary engine rather than a conventional camshaft. The Japanese version also included Tech Specs not found on the original Hasbro release.
