The 1985 LJN ThunderCats ThunderTank is an iconic vintage vehicle from the original ThunderCats toy line, featuring a battery-free Battle-Matic action feature. Pressing the blue button on the rear activates Attack Mode, opening the cat-shaped jaws, raising the front paws to reveal hidden laser cannons, and flipping open the rear canopy to expose a pivoting blaster. The spring-loaded mechanism resets to Cruise Mode by pushing the jaws back down.
Inspired by Panthro’s signature vehicle from the animated series, the ThunderTank has a quirky design flaw: the Panthro action figure is too bulky to fit properly in the cockpit, while Lion-O fits more easily. For vintage toy collectors, the most important condition concern is the original black rubber treads, which commonly suffer from dry rot, cracking, and breakage with age. A complete 1985 LJN ThunderTank with intact treads and a working Battle-Matic mechanism is a standout collectible from the classic ThunderCats toy collection.
