Blackstar Triton (1983)

The 1983 Galoob Blackstar Triton the Flying Bull is a large ride-on creature and one of the most distinctive villain vehicles in the vintage Blackstar toy line. Designed as the evil counterpart to the heroic dragon Warlock, Triton is a monstrous hybrid combining a muscular four-legged bull body with large pterodactyl-style wings. The figure is molded in deep purple or magenta plastic with contrasting neon-green wings and was primarily associated with the villainous sorcerer Kadray.

Triton features a manual wing-flapping action mechanism activated by a lever located near the underside or saddle area. Operating the mechanism causes the large wings to move up and down, creating a flying effect during play. The creature was also equipped with a black riding saddle and harness designed to hold 5-inch Blackstar figures. For collectors, these accessories are essential to identifying a complete Triton.

The Blackstar Triton the Flying Bull is particularly difficult to find complete because several components are small or fragile. The removable horns, black saddle and harness, and wing connection pieces are commonly missing or damaged on loose examples. An intact Triton with both horns, original saddle and harness, firmly attached wings, and a functioning wing-flapping mechanism is therefore especially desirable to vintage Blackstar collectors.
