Bristleback is a 1989 Transformers G1 Pretender Monster and member of the Monstructor team. His inner robot transforms into a horn-backed, quadrupedal land-shark creature and can form either arm of Monstructor, with his standard role being the right arm. His monstrous turtle-like Pretender shell stores his pulse rifle and Monstructor fist.
The G1 Bristleback toy is particularly notable for its fragile construction and susceptibility to Gold Plastic Syndrome, with the hands, beast-mode legs, and combiner connection especially prone to breakage. The rubbery monster shell can also develop oily residue and discoloration over time, making Bristleback one of the more delicate and challenging vintage Transformers collectibles to preserve.
