Blackstar Gargo with Alien Demon (1984)

Gargo, also known as “Vampire Man,” was reissued by Galoob in 1984 as part of the Blackstar Laser Light series. The figure retains the distinctive 5.5-inch design of the original release, including its hunched posture, elongated ears, muscular sculpt, bright purple body, orange-toned face, black loincloth, and removable yellow bat wings.

The major change for the 1984 Gargo Laser Light figure is the addition of a mechanical sparking feature. A large flint-striker wheel on his back activates the mechanism, producing sparks that illuminate a translucent red circular window embedded in his chest. Gargo’s wings were also redesigned to attach directly into holes near his shoulders, allowing space for the Laser Light mechanism.

As one of the most visually unusual villains in the Galoob Blackstar toy line, the 1984 Gargo combines a medieval demon-inspired sculpt with one of the line’s signature 1980s toy gimmicks. The Laser Light version is particularly recognizable by its red translucent chest panel, rear sparking wheel, and modified wing attachment, making it an important variation for collectors documenting the Blackstar releases from 1984.
