Blackstar Neptul with Alien Demon (1984)

Neptul, the “Lord of Aquaria,” returned in 1984 as part of Galoob’s Blackstar Series 2 Laser Light collection. Originally introduced in 1983, Neptul is one of the few Blackstar toy villains to appear in the 1981 Filmation animated series, including the episode The Kingdom of Neptul. The 1984 Laser Light release retains his distinctive aquatic monster appearance while adding one of the most dramatic mechanical gimmicks in the Blackstar toy line.

The defining feature of the 1984 Neptul Laser Light figure is a large mechanical flint-and-striker wheel mounted on his upper back. Spinning the wheel produces real friction sparks inside the torso, which are visible through a newly added translucent clear-orange chest panel. This replaces the solid blue chest armor found on the 1983 figure and gives Neptul the appearance of having a glowing, energized core.

Galoob also incorporated a practical feature into the 1984 Blackstar Neptul packaging, with instructions explaining how to access the rear mechanism and replace the flint when it wore down. The combination of Neptul’s recognizable aquatic design, translucent orange chest, working spark mechanism, and Laser Light branding makes this version a distinctive variation of the original Galoob Blackstar Neptul figure and an important release for collectors.
