Blackstar Overlord with Alien Demon (1984)

Overlord, the supreme villain of the Galoob Blackstar toy line, was released in both 1983 Series 1 and 1984 Series 2 Laser Light versions. As the tyrannical ruler of Sagar and primary antagonist of the 1981 Filmation series, Overlord is the dark counterpart to John Blackstar, wielding the Power Sword, the evil equivalent of Blackstar’s Starsword. The original figure stands approximately 5.5–6 inches tall and features a skull-like face, horned dark helmet, ribbed black skeletal armor, dark red trunks and boots, and a removable purple fabric cape.

In 1984, Galoob reissued Overlord as part of the Laser Light series, adding the line’s signature mechanical sparking feature. The updated figure incorporates a flint-and-striker wheel on his back that creates sparks inside a translucent chest area, giving the villain a dramatic energy effect. The 1984 release retains Overlord’s recognizable skull-faced design and evil aesthetic while replacing the simpler 1983 construction with the more aggressive Laser Light gimmick. Together, the 1983 Basic and 1984 Laser Light Overlord figures represent two important versions of the central villain in the vintage Galoob Blackstar toy line.
