Blackstar Blackstar with Trobbit (1984)

The 1984 Galoob Blackstar Series 2 figure packs updated the original 1983 lineup with the new Laser Light action feature. John Blackstar and other returning characters retained their basic 5.5-inch designs but were modified with an internal spark mechanism that produced a small flash of light when activated. Blackstar’s necklace was redesigned as part of the feature, while his signature Star Sword remained an important accessory.

The 1984 releases also changed how Galoob handled the popular Trobbit companions. Blackstar could still be packaged with a Trobbit, including Poulo, but Galoob also began selling Trobbits separately rather than requiring collectors to purchase another large hero figure to obtain them. Individual Trobbit releases included characters such as Rif, Gossamer, Terra, and Burble, helping collectors expand their Trobbit collections without accumulating duplicate heroes.

For collectors, the key distinction is that the 1983 Blackstar is the original non-Laser Light version, while the 1984 Blackstar is the upgraded Laser Light release. Series 2 also expanded the lineup with characters such as Klone and introduced additional Laser Light versions of existing figures. This makes the 1984 release an important second-generation version of the Galoob Blackstar toy line, particularly for collectors looking to distinguish the original 1983 figure from the later Laser Light Blackstar and separately packaged Trobbit figures.
