Blackstar Gargo with Alien Demon (1983)

Gargo, also identified as “Vampire Man” in early Blackstar material, is one of the primary villains from Galoob’s 1983 debut Blackstar toy line. Standing approximately 5.5 inches tall, Gargo has a monstrous medieval-demon appearance with a hunched pose, elongated ears, muscular sculpt, and a striking color scheme of bright purple body parts, an orange/flesh-toned face, and black furry loincloth details.

Gargo was equipped with several distinctive accessories, including a translucent glow-in-the-dark dagger and large removable yellow bat wings that attach to his back. The combination of oversized wings, vivid colors, and demonic sculpting gives the figure a particularly recognizable appearance among the original Blackstar villains. As one of Overlord’s evil forces, Gargo represents the darker, more monstrous side of the Blackstar toy line.

The 1983 Series 1 Gargo figure was packaged with an Alien Demon companion rather than a heroic Trobbit. This small, approximately 3-inch unarticulated PVC creature was designed as a villainous counterpart to the Trobbit companions included with Blackstar’s heroes. Gargo was commonly paired with the neon green Alien Demon, although other Alien Demons were produced in different bright colors throughout the Blackstar toy line.
