Blackstar Tongo with Alien Demon (1983)

The 1983 Galoob Blackstar Tongo the Leopard Man is one of the original Series 1 villains from the Blackstar action figure line. Unlike the later 1984 Series 2 version, the 1983 Tongo is a traditional, fully poseable action figure with no internal action mechanism. He came with distinctive glow-in-the-dark weapons, typically a shield paired with a sword or axe, and in the U.S. release was packaged with a green Alien Demon companion. International versions of the Blackstar Tongo set can be found with alternate Alien Demon colors, including yellow, orange, and pink.

The 1983 Tongo the Leopard Man packaging features the original Series 1 Blackstar card artwork and reflects Galoob's initial presentation of the character as one of Overlord's major villains. Although the basic Tongo sculpt remained largely unchanged, Galoob significantly reworked the character's play features, accessories, and packaging for the 1984 Series 2 release, making the two versions important variations for Blackstar collectors.
