Blackstar Palace Guard with Alien Demon (1983)

The Palace Guard, often called the “Bird Man” by collectors, is one of the most distinctive troop-builder figures in Galoob’s Blackstar toy line. Serving as part of Overlord’s military forces, the approximately 6-inch 1983 figure combines fantasy and science-fiction elements with an avian humanoid design. The beige figure features a prominent yellow bird-like beak, bright blue chest armor, green wristbands, and dark brown boots.

The 1983 Palace Guard came equipped with a large removable technology backpack with flexible tubing and a translucent glow-in-the-dark blaster pistol. Like other figures from the original Blackstar wave, his legs use an internal rubber-band joint that can deteriorate with age. As a result, vintage loose examples commonly develop loose hips or completely detached legs, making an intact Palace Guard more desirable to collectors.

As one of Overlord’s evil forces, the Palace Guard with Alien Demon was packaged with a small, unarticulated red Alien Demon companion made from solid PVC. The combination of the unusual bird-man sculpt, futuristic backpack, glowing weapon, and demon sidekick makes the 1983 Galoob Blackstar Palace Guard a distinctive troop-builder and an important figure for collectors completing the original Blackstar lineup.
