Thunderwing is a 1989 Transformers G1 Mega Pretender with an inner robot that transforms into a Cybertronic shuttlecraft and a Pretender shell that converts into its own starship. The G1 Thunderwing toy includes two Heat-Seeking Laser Blasters and a Cyclone Cannon, with all three weapons able to mount on the shell's vehicle mode. The inner shuttle can attach beneath the larger starship to create a combined spacecraft.

The Transformers G1 Thunderwing uses a straightforward transformation without removing and rearranging parts between modes. His Pretender shell resembles an alien warrior with Japanese oni influences, while the mold was later retooled into Black Shadow. Thunderwing also became a sought-after vintage G1 Mega Pretender due to his prominent use in Transformers fiction.
