Shrapnel is a 1985 Transformers G1 Insecticon that transforms into a robotic stag beetle. The G1 Shrapnel toy includes a Gamma Ray Detonator rifle and features a clear-yellow chest that opens to reveal a small pilot compartment inherited from its Diaclone origins.
The Transformers G1 Shrapnel figure has a notable rifle variation, with later versions featuring extra fins and added barrel detailing. In Japan, Shrapnel was released as an Insectron during the first year of Takara's Transformers line and later offered through mail-order campaigns. His package art also famously depicts him with two left arms, and the figure carries Takara ID 42.
