Runabout is a 1986 Transformers G1 Battlecharger that transforms into a detailed Lotus Turbo Esprit sports car. The G1 Runabout toy features an autotransformation gimmick powered by a pull-back motor, allowing it to roll forward in both car and robot modes. Starting in vehicle mode automatically triggers its transformation into robot mode, while its High-Energy Particle Beam Rifle mounts to his shoulder.
The Transformers G1 Runabout figure has limited articulation due to its autotransforming design and is closely related to Runamuck, the other 1986 Battlecharger. Despite their similar molds, both were produced simultaneously, making it unlikely that either figure was simply a retool of the other. Runabout remains a distinctive vintage G1 Transformers Battlecharger collectible.
