Prowl is a 1984 Transformers G1 Autobot Car originally based on the Diaclone “Police Car Fairlady Z.” The G1 Prowl toy transforms into a Datsun 280ZX Turbo sports car with Japanese police styling and includes an acid pellet gun, two shoulder-mounted missile launchers, and three wire-guided incendiary missiles. Hasbro disabled the launchers' spring-loaded firing mechanism, while Takara's version retained it.
The Transformers G1 Prowl figure has several production variations, including early US releases with leftover “Diaclone” markings and a 1989 Chinese release that restored the markings to the hood and doors. A heat-activated rubsign was added to the hood in 1985. With its Datsun 280ZX police-car design, distinctive accessories, and multiple vintage releases, Prowl remains a notable G1 Autobot Car collectible.
