The 1984 Transformers G1 Megatron is the original Decepticon Leader and one of the most iconic figures in the vintage Transformers toyline. Megatron transforms into a highly detailed Walther P-38 pistol inspired by the firearm featured in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. His scope becomes the signature fusion cannon in robot mode, while the included silencer, stock, telescopic sight, and high-density infrared laser cannon can be combined into additional weapon configurations.
Originally based on Takara's Micro Change Gun Robo P38 U.N.C.L.E., the G1 Megatron toy had different accessories and safety modifications between Japanese and Hasbro releases. The Japanese version retained its bullet-firing mechanism and included a chrome sword, while Hasbro removed the firing feature for safety reasons. Early U.S. releases also received different rubsign placements, and Megatron's realistic firearm design has prevented U.S. reissues, making vintage originals and Japanese releases especially notable among G1 Transformers collectors.
