The 1989 Transformers G1 Longtooth is an Autobot Pretender whose inner robot transforms into a fictional amphibious transport vehicle. Its removable backpack forms much of the vehicle mode, while the distinctive Pretender shell depicts a humanoid walrus with an electronic eye, making Longtooth unusual among the standard Autobot Pretenders. Accessories include a plasma cannon for the inner robot and a larger ionic field generator for the shell.
Longtooth's vehicle hood is connected by small, fragile clip joints that can break from overextension or repeated use, making the hood a commonly missing component on surviving vintage examples. Like other 1989 Pretenders, the plasma cannon can be stored inside the shell. Longtooth was never released in Japan, making the figure a distinctive and relatively unusual G1 Autobot Pretender for collectors.
