Spiral Zone Zone Drone Missile Launcher Backpack (1987)

The 1987 Tonka Zone Drone Missile Launcher Backpack was a premium standalone heavy-weapons accessory for the Spiral Zone toy line. Designed for the line’s 7-inch action figures, this equipment pack stood out for its electronic features and detachable robotic drone.

The centerpiece was a gray backpack housing with a detachable motorized Zone Drone. The battery-powered drone was designed as a remote surveillance and attack unit and featured a spring-loaded missile launcher for firing plastic projectiles. This electronic gimmick made the Zone Drone one of the more advanced accessory concepts in the Spiral Zone collection.

The original carded set included the electronic backpack housing, motorized Zone Drone, multiple missiles, handheld laser rifle, and a Top Secret Tech File containing fictional technical information about the automated weapon system.

The Zone Drone Missile Launcher Backpack is a particularly interesting vintage Spiral Zone accessory because of its electronic components and detachable drone. A complete example should include the backpack, motorized drone, missiles, laser rifle, and original Tech File.
