Spiral Zone Reaper (1987)

Reaper, also known as Matty Thorne, was released by Tonka in 1987 (MPN 7041) as a core member of the villainous Black Widows in the Spiral Zone toy line. Known as the "Black Widow Manhunter," Reaper's role was to track down and capture helpless humans affected by the Spiral Zone, turning them into part of Overlord's mind-controlled army.

The 7-inch action figure features the mutated appearance associated with the Black Widows, including pale gray skin, dark markings around the eyes, and yellow eyes. He wears a dark olive green, charcoal, and black tiger-stripe cloth jumpsuit with striking crimson-red snap-on armor covering his chest, shoulders, and shins.

Reaper came equipped with a dark gray manhunter helmet with red visor, red-and-gray Stunner backpack, laser pistol, capture rod, utility belt, and flexible power hoses connecting his equipment. The original package also included a character-specific audio cassette featuring a radio-drama adventure centered on his tracking missions.

Today, the 1987 Tonka Spiral Zone Reaper figure is a popular collectible among Spiral Zone fans, vintage Tonka collectors, and 1980s action figure enthusiasts. Complete examples can be difficult to find because the red armor tabs are prone to stress damage and the small weapons, belt, and hoses were easily lost during childhood play.
