Spiral Zone Lt Max Jones (1987)

Second Lieutenant Max Jones was released by Tonka in 1987 as a core member of the heroic Zone Riders in the Spiral Zone toy line. Known as the team's "Special Mission Expert," Max Jones specialized in defensive operations, communications, and tracking enemy movements while fighting Overlord and the Black Widows.

The 7-inch action figure features a distinctive molded portrait and a real-cloth bright red military jumpsuit covered by tan and dark brown snap-on armor. Like other Zone Riders, his armor was designed to protect him from the mind-controlling effects of the Spiral Zone fog.

Max Jones came equipped with specialized mission gear, including a tan scanning helmet with an asymmetrical eye lens, heavy tactical backpack, long-barreled combat rifle, power connections, decals, a Top Secret military dossier, and a character-themed audio cassette. His unusual scanning equipment helps distinguish the figure from other 1987 Spiral Zone releases.

Today, the 1987 Tonka Spiral Zone Max Jones figure is a desirable collectible for Spiral Zone fans, vintage Tonka collectors, and 1980s action figure enthusiasts. Complete examples are difficult to find because the backpack components, small clips, and specialized rifle were easily damaged or lost during play.
