Spiral Zone Duchess Dire (1987)

Duchess Dire, also known as Ursula Dire, is the lone female member of the villainous Black Widows faction in Tonka's 1987 Spiral Zone toy line. Known as the “Assignments Expert,” she is portrayed as a brilliant criminal mastermind, British terrorist, and second-in-command to the main villain, Overlord. Duchess Dire was part of the original toy release despite the heroic female character Katerina Anastacia being omitted from the initial line.

The vintage Tonka Duchess Dire figure stands approximately 6 inches tall and features a grotesque mutated appearance with pale skin, yellow eyes, and a distinctive red chitinous covering over half of her head. She wears a black-and-purple cloth bodysuit with removable purple armor and includes a “Widow Maker” backpack, laser pistol, capture claw, decals, file card, and an exclusive audio cassette featuring a radio-drama adventure. The 1987 Duchess Dire action figure remains a notable collectible among Spiral Zone collectors, vintage Tonka enthusiasts, female villain figure collectors, and 1980s action figure fans, although aging hip and shoulder joints can become loose over time.
