Transformers Generation 1 Barrage (1985)

The 1985 Transformers G1 Barrage is a Deluxe Insecticon that transforms into a robotic Japanese rhinoceros beetle. Originally designed by Takatoku Toys as Beet-Gadol for the Armored Insect Battalion Beetras line, the mold later became available to Hasbro after Bandai acquired Takatoku’s assets. Barrage stands out among Generation 1 Insecticons for his highly articulated robot mode and his unusual transformation, which completely hides the insect legs inside the robot.

Barrage features a distinctive green-and-yellow color scheme and comes with a Sonic Rifle and Electro-Sword. Because the original mold was owned by Bandai, Barrage was not released in Takara’s Japanese G1 Transformers toy line, making the character a particularly interesting vintage Transformers G1 collectible with a unique licensing history.
