1985 Transformers G1 Kickback is an Insecticon that transforms into a robotic grasshopper. The figure is a redeco and slight retool of Takara’s Diaclone Waruder “Insecter Robo Battas,” featuring a clear-yellow chest that reveals its original pilot compartment and an Electrothermic Blast Tube accessory. The wing tips were rounded for safety, and a rubsign indent was added for the Transformers release.
Kickback has several wing variations, including early versions with one rubsign indent and later releases with four indents and shorter chrome-silver wings. In Japan, Kickback was released as Insectron through Takara’s Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers line and later offered through mail-order promotions. The mold was also reused for the Shothole drones. 1985 Kickback remains a classic vintage Transformers G1 Insecticon collectible.
