1988 Transformers G1 Gunrunner is a Pretender Vehicle whose inner robot transforms into a hypersonic jet using the vehicle shell’s turret as part of the alternate mode. He comes with a rifle, two energy plasma missiles, and a dual electro-static cannon turret. The unusual design allows Gunrunner to straddle beneath the turret while the rest of the vehicle forms his jet mode.
Gunrunner’s outer Pretender Vehicle shell transforms into a futuristic Cybertronic car with a driver’s compartment and space to conceal the inner robot. A gear-driven mechanism connects the car’s rear axle to the jet backpack, making the twin cannons move back and forth as the car rolls. The 1988 Gunrunner was a UK-exclusive Woolworths release and was never released in Japan, making it a distinctive vintage Transformers G1 collectible.
