Bravestarr Evil Laser-Fire Backpack (1986)

The 1986 Mattel Evil Laser-Fire Backpack is a unique piece of vintage BraveStarr toy history and an early example of electronic infrared action-figure play. Molded in black plastic for the villain characters, the bulky backpack attaches to standard 8-inch BraveStarr figures and turns them into interactive laser-battle toys. Powered by a 9-volt battery, it combines an infrared transmitter with a built-in light sensor.

Pressing the trigger activates the figure's quick-draw arm motion, fires an invisible infrared beam, and produces a shooting sound. If the opposing heroic blue Laser-Fire Backpack detects a hit on its sensor, it registers the attack with a continuous beep until reset. Mattel sold the Evil Laser-Fire Backpack both as a standalone accessory pack with a targeting sheet and reflective stickers and in deluxe figure sets such as Laser-Fire Tex Hex.

The 1986 Evil Laser-Fire Backpack is particularly notable for combining BraveStarr action figures with early electronic and infrared technology, making it a desirable accessory for collectors seeking complete vintage Mattel BraveStarr sets.
