Bravestarr Tex Hex (1986)

The 1986 Mattel BraveStarr Tex Hex action figure represents the series' main villain and leader of the Carrion Bunch. Designed as an undead space-western outlaw, Tex Hex features a muscular 8-inch body, pale lavender skin, sunken yellow eyes, fangs, white hair and beard, a purple duster vest, black cowboy chaps, and a permanently molded black cowboy hat. His signature Brawlin' Back-Button action feature uses a mechanical lever on his back to rapidly raise his right arm in a quick-draw motion.

Mattel produced two notable versions of Tex Hex. The standard figure has a conventional hollow torso and comes with his weapons, while the later Laser-Fire Tex Hex features an electronic torso, backpack, and infrared sensor designed to interact with the BraveStarr Laser-Fire system and register hits with sound effects.

A complete 1986 Mattel Tex Hex should include his two distinctive metallic bronze-gold weapons: the Skull-Blast Pistol and Phantom Rifle. These rigid accessories are often missing or damaged, particularly around the thin handles and rifle barrel. With his distinctive undead cowboy sculpt, mechanical quick-draw feature, multiple releases, and signature weapons, Tex Hex remains one of the most recognizable vintage BraveStarr action figures.
