1985 Transformers G1 Grimlock is one of the most iconic Dinobots from the original Generation 1 toyline. Based on Takara’s Diaclone Dinosaur Robo Tyrannosaurus, Grimlock transforms from a robot into a robotic Tyrannosaurus rex with an opening jaw. His accessories include an Energo sword, twin stunner lasers, a spring-loaded rocket launcher, and three rockets. Hasbro versions featured weakened launcher springs and blunted dinosaur teeth for safety, while Takara releases retained stronger launching mechanisms.

Grimlock was released in 1985 and remained a popular G1 character through later reissues and releases. The original toy retained several design features from its Diaclone predecessor, including an opening cockpit in dinosaur mode, although the Diaclone driver figure was omitted. In Japan, Grimlock was later offered as a mail-away exclusive during the 1990 Operation Combination campaign, adding another notable variation for vintage Transformers G1 collectors.
