Goldbug is a 1987 Transformers G1 Throttlebot and a later evolution of Bumblebee, transforming into a 1971–72 Volkswagen 1302 “Super Beetle.” Like other Throttlebots, the figure features a pull-back motor that allows it to roll forward in both vehicle and robot modes. Goldbug is a notable vintage G1 Bumblebee variant and remains a popular collectible among Transformers fans.
The figure was re-released in European markets in 1991 as part of the Classics sub-line. This version was retooled to remove the rubsign indentation from the roof and chest, replacing the heat-sensitive rubsign with a glossy Autobot insignia sticker. Goldbug was also known by the Takara ID number C-97.
