The Black Hole Dr. Alex Durant (1979)

The 1979 Mego The Black Hole Dr. Alex Durant 12.5-inch action figure was part of Mego’s premium 1:6-scale “prestige” lineup, designed as a high-end holiday gift. Like the other large-scale figures, Durant was packaged in a tall, illustrated window box featuring bold artwork from Disney’s The Black Hole.

The figure features a detailed Anthony Perkins likeness and a fully articulated body dressed in a tailored fabric recreation of Durant’s movie wardrobe: a blue shirt beneath a long, pocketed gray jacket with matching gray pants. The cloth clothing and large scale give the figure a more realistic appearance than Mego’s smaller figures.

Collectors should watch for “grey face” vinyl degradation, which can cause the head to develop a pale, gray, or zombie-like appearance over time. Despite this issue, loose Durant figures are often found in relatively good overall condition. Today, the vintage Mego Dr. Alex Durant 12.5-inch figure is a desirable collectible for fans of The Black Hole, Mego toys, and 1970s science-fiction memorabilia.
