The Black Hole Dr. Kate McRae (1979)

The 1979 Mego The Black Hole Dr. Kate McCrae 12.5-inch action figure was part of Mego’s premium 1:6-scale “prestige” holiday lineup. Packaged in an illustrated sci-fi window box, this larger version stands out from the smaller figure with a bright fuchsia cloth jumpsuit and dark brown knee-high rubber boots.

The detailed fabric costume gives the figure a distinctive appearance and has generally held up well over the decades. Her original rubber boots are especially important to collectors, as replacement reproductions are not factory-original and complete examples are increasingly difficult to find.

Like the large-scale Dr. Reinhardt figure, Kate McCrae’s head is generally less susceptible to the infamous “grey face” vinyl degradation that affects some Mego The Black Hole figures. A vintage example retaining its original skin tone, complete cloth outfit, and intact boots is particularly desirable to collectors.
