The Black Hole Charles Pizer (1979)

The 1979 Mego The Black Hole Charles Pizer 12.5-inch action figure was part of Mego’s premium large-scale “prestige” lineup, marketed as a high-end holiday release. The figure came in an illustrated window box featuring promotional artwork from Disney’s The Black Hole.

Standing at approximately 1:6 scale, Pizer features a detailed Joseph Bottoms likeness and a fully articulated body dressed in a tailored beige cloth jumpsuit with stitched zipper details and character insignias. The fabric uniform gives the figure a more realistic appearance than the smaller 3.75-inch version.

Like other Mego Black Hole human figures from this series, Pizer is susceptible to vinyl degradation known as “grey face” or “zombie head” disease. Over time, the head can develop a gray, pale-green, or sickly appearance as the vinyl deteriorates. Examples retaining their original flesh tone and complete cloth uniform are particularly desirable to collectors.
