The Black Hole Humanoid (1979)

The 1979 Mego The Black Hole Humanoid 3.75-inch figure is one of the rarest releases in the entire vintage line. Originally planned for Wave 2, the figure was cancelled for the U.S. market after the film underperformed and was instead distributed internationally in limited quantities, primarily through Grand Toys in Canada and GiG in Italy.

The Humanoid is also notable for its unusual construction. It features a removable fabric cloak, an internal rubber-band/O-ring body system, and a distinctive mirror-silver chrome face mask. Some examples are associated with removable cloth boots, making complete and original examples particularly interesting to variant collectors.

Condition is critical with this figure. The fabric robe can tear or fade, the internal O-rings can dry out and break, and the chrome mask is prone to “chromeburn,” where handling causes the reflective finish to rub away or become dull. Because of its limited international release, unusual construction, and fragile materials, a complete vintage Mego Humanoid is considered a major prize for The Black Hole and vintage action-figure collectors.
