The Black Hole Dr. Alex Durant (1979)

The 1979 Mego The Black Hole Dr. Alex Durant 3.75-inch action figure was part of Wave 1 and was produced in large numbers, making it one of the more commonly available human figures from Mego’s original The Black Hole toy line. The figure represents Durant, a key character from the first half of Disney’s 1979 science-fiction film.

Dr. Durant features Mego’s distinctive rubber-band construction and approximately 10 points of articulation, giving him exceptional poseability for a 3.75-inch figure of the era. His molded outfit includes a blue shirt, gray jacket, dark brown pants, and black shoes.

A notable piece of Mego toy history is the recycling of Durant’s torso sculpt. The same basic body tooling was later reused for the Luke Duke figure in The Dukes of Hazzard line and by Brazilian manufacturer Glasslite for figures based on properties including Knight Rider, MacGyver, Airwolf, and The Fall Guy.
