Wheeled Warriors Saw Boss (1985)

The 1985 Mattel Saw Boss is the flagship villain vehicle of the Monster Minds in the Wheeled Warriors toy line, officially designated as the “Tyrant.” Unlike the human-piloted Lightning League vehicles, Saw Boss features an integrated green Monster Mind brain slug, emphasizing its bio-organic and seemingly sentient design. Its black chassis rides on a distinctive three-wheel frame and features striking gold chrome accents.

The vehicle’s signature weapon is a large gold vacuum-metalized buzz saw mounted to a bright green rotating vine stalk, giving Saw Boss its intimidating appearance. Additional weapons include the gold Superscanner radar dish, copper Triple Gunner, dark-gray Gassin’ Gun, and Monster Rocket launcher. Its combination of biomechanical styling, chrome detailing, and heavy weaponry makes it one of the most distinctive vehicles in the Mattel Wheeled Warriors line.

A complete Saw Boss includes the black body with integrated pilot brain, three-wheel chassis, six specialized tires, green stalk, gold buzz saw, Superscanner, Triple Gunner, Gassin’ Gun, Monster Rocket launcher, and instructions. The gold saw blade is frequently missing, while the softer green vine can develop cracks or warping. For collectors, a complete example with intact chrome and undamaged organic parts is particularly desirable, making Saw Boss a key vintage Mattel Wheeled Warriors collectible.
