Toy Buys of the Week
With Covid-c9 running amuck a lot of customers are looking to “sell toy collections”. We love to help out and are constantly on the lookout for new people looking to “sell old toys”. Take a look at some of this weeks’ collections. Give us a shot if you are looking to “sell my toy collection.”
Kenner M.A.S.K. Vehicles and Playsets
It’s the Mobile Armored Strike Kommand (M.A.S.K.) protecting us from the Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem (V.E.N.O.M.). A toyline created by Kenner that launched in 1985 and lasted through 1988. Over 70 episodes of the cartoon aired. Later toys focused on racing verses crime-fighting and terrorism.
Mattel Masters of the Universe (MOTU) Toys
A conflict between He-Man and Skeletor and their armies on the planet Eternia. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe were created by Mattel in 1982 with a cartoon that debuted in the fall of 1983. Who hasn’t heard “By the power of Grayskull?”
Kenner Star Wars Action Figures
Kenner Toys produced a line of Star Wars action figures starting in 1977, which are based on the characters in the original Star Wars movie trilogy. They made over 100 action figures and countless ships, vehicles, and playsets. Which were sold from 1977 to 1985, making great figures like Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, and Darth Vader.
Hasbro G.I. Joe Vintage Toys
Basically, Hasbro copied Kenner’s Star Wars packaging and figure size. However, they vastly improved the figure’s articulation and instead of giving just one accessory, they often gave a handful! This is why Joes for me have better play value.
Hasbro G1 Transformers Action Figures
The Transformers brand born in 1984 has been a constant at retail stores ever since. Hasbro took the Diaclone and Micro Change lines from Takara and sold them in the United States and elsewhere. Hasbro followed their game plan with G.I. Joe and turned once again to Marvel. Marvel then developed the Transformers Universe giving Transformers their depth.
Mego The Black Hole Action Figures
The Black Hole action figures made by Mego are some of the best toys Mego made. The film was a flop, unfortunately, due to that even despite the high-quality figures, they quickly moved to the discount aisle. The toys only made it for two series.
Knickerbocker Lord of the Rings Toys
Lord of the Rings toys were released in 1977 and made by Knickerbocker. Lord of the Rings has a strong story and great character development already with the quality novels. The toys were of good quality but quickly moved to the discount bin. A tough set to put together even though it’s only a total of 6 figures and 2 horses.
Mattel Clash of the Titans Action Figures
The Clash of Titans action figures coincided with the 1980 movie release. The toys were made by Mattel and the set sold well but never expanded past the first 6 toys. Such a shame!
Mattel Battlestar Galactica Vintage Toys
In 1978, Universal Studios and ABC brought us Battlestar Galactica. Their goal was to recreate Star Wars in a weekly TV series. Mattel obtained the rights and the toys did very well. Unfortunately, the show did great but was costly to produce and was shut down after one season.

Bio: I’m the founder and owner of Wheeljack’s Lab. My vision has always been to reunite customers with their favorite childhood toys, triggering fond memories and reigniting their imaginations. Every day I work in the “lab” where it’s Christmas 365 days a year; scouring the internet – like we did the Sears Catalog of yesteryear – for the next great treasure, awaiting the arrival of the postman as if he was Santa Claus himself and helping collectors worldwide with their own versions of Christmas. Every day as a vintage toy buyer is an absolute joy!
