From 1983 to 1987, Tonka released a toy line that attempted to rival Hasbro’s Transformers, the GoBots. This line also included several transforming robots that took on vehicle modes. These sentient robots then split between the good Guardians and the evil Renegades. Unlike their original figures from Bandai’s Popy division, Tonka gave each character a distinct name.
