Join us on a journey through the 1997 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog, which offered a first look at Hasbro’s latest toys. Some of the toys that Hasbro produced in 1997 included Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Beast Wars Transformers.
Hasbro began their coverage of DC-focused toys with the Man of Steel, Superman, in the 1997 Toy Fair Catalog. Since the animated television series had recently launched, these toys took cues from Bruce Timm’s designs. However, Hasbro took some liberty to add toyetic elements to the Superman action figures.
First, they promoted #62930: Animated Superman Assortment. Now fans could create their own Superman adventures with heroes and villains from the animated TV series. These figures included launchers, specialized snap-on gear, and other action accessories.
Then, they presented #62950: Deluxe Superman Assortment. These toys had deluxe features like light and sound, gliding flight, or pumped-up weapons that made Superman even stronger. So, fans could recreate all the action from the animated TV series.
Finally, they advertised: #62948: Superman Animated Space Pod, the spaceship that brought Earth. Players could use it to fight against intergalactic villains. Its features included a deployable capture claw to trap villains, a launching deep space probe, and pop-out wings for hyperspace travel.
