Hasbro continued to promote their hit G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toys on page 135 of the 1987 Toy Fair Catalog. At the beginning of the decade, the G.I. Joe toy line was effectively a dead franchise, for Hasbro had temporarily shelved the line. However, with the persistence of an executive and the assistance of Marvel, G.I. Joe received a facelift to become Real American Heroes. With both comics and a cartoon show supporting the line, it became one of Hasbro’s greatest hits during the decade.

Here, Hasbro presented #6040, the Cobra Sea Ray, an awesome underwater attack and aerial reconnaissance craft. When disengaged, the forward section became a heavily armed, manned submarine while the rear section turned into a one-man glider. This vehicle included a Cobra navigator, SEA SLUG, with a personal combat command file card. As it split into two separate armed vehicles, the detachable front cockpit floated. It also featured eight removable missiles and an opening canopy.
