1986 Kenner Toy Fair Catalog – Super Powers

Join us on a journey through the 1986 Kenner Toy Fair Catalog, which offered a first look at Kenner’s latest toys. For instance, readers had the chance to view the Star Wars Droids and M.A.S.K. toys.

The 1986 Kenner Toy Fair Catalog entertained readers with a wide selection of Super Powers action figures and vehicles. The company introduced these exciting toys in 1984, helping bring the characters from DC to life. Unlike prior DC toys, like Mego’s, these toys did not feature interchangeable outfits. Instead, Kenner offered detailed sculpting and action features for this toy line.

Here, Kenner continued the coverage of No. 67120, Darkseid’s Tower of Darkness Playset, the most diabolical and deadly den of doom that awaited the heroes. DARKSEID’s TOWER OF DARKNESS was a featured part of the new SUPER POWERS programming. DARK SEID’s home was designed to trap and torture even the most powerful of the SUPER POWERS.

So, the Omega Eyes warn heroes of the multiple dangers. First, two rotating cannons made ominous clicking sounds and mammoth clutching arms that closed tight on approaching enemies. Moreover, this playset featured a revolving front gate that turns into a jail cell and a rotating body vice. This set also had a head-slamming elevator attached to DARKSEID’s victory flag pole. Furthermore, there was a capture jaw that chomped down on its captives before dropping the victim into the lava pit below. The tower had a trap door that opened into a spiked pit.

Sitting on his mighty rock throne, DARKSEID watched with delight as our heroes were tormented. Will the SUPER POWERS escape DARKSEID’s clutches? Fans everywhere would have great fun as they decide.

About Our Kenner Toy Fair Catalog Scans

Kenner handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events to promote their upcoming slate of products. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Kenner Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, their ground-breaking Star Wars toy line often appeared in these catalogs. Kenner also gave players the chance to live out superhero fantasies with the Super Powers action figures. Another of their beloved lines, M.A.S.K., also were featured in multiple catalogs. There were also other action figure lines like Centurions.

Kenner used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Kenner only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Kenner Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
