John Rambo NEW MOSC Rambo 1986 Coleco Vintage Action Figure

Are you a fan of Rambo and wondering when Coleco created the first Rambo toys? Look no further! We have all the information you need!

Rambo’s Inspiration

The 1980s brought an appreciation for patriotism and the U.S. military among American citizens, young and old. Many toy manufacturers, such as Hasbro’s famous G.I. Joe toy line, used this to their advantage. Coleco, the Rambo toy line manufacturer, also capitalized on this military appreciation.

The Rambo franchise’s initial film, First Blood, was released in 1982. Rambo: First Blood Part II was released three years later, in 1985, and is the highest-grossing film of the entire franchise. Coleco was inspired to capitalize on the film’s popularity by releasing its Rambo toy line. Fans of the Rambo film were drawn to the toys’ immense detail and fun accessories. And thus, the first Rambo toys were made.

It is easy to understand why Coleco implemented the Rambo toy line – and we are glad they did!

The First Rambo Toys Are Born

In 1985, Coleco acquired the license to produce Rambo action figures. However, it wasn’t until 1986 that they first created Rambo toys for consumers. The first collection featured highly detailed, 3.75-inch figurines that perfectly captured the likeness of Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo character. Each figure boasted many movable joints, allowing various poses and interactive play.

The initial wave of Rambo action figures showcased the titular character. It included other iconic movie personalities, such as Colonel Trautman (below), the main antagonist, and various enemy soldiers. These figures came with multiple accessories, including weapons, combat gear, and vehicles, further enhancing the play experience.

Rambo Action Figures Gain Traction

Rambo action figures quickly gained popularity and captured the imaginations of countless children during the 1980s. The movie’s blockbuster status and the charismatic appeal of Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo character contributed to the immense success of these toys.

The Rambo toy line continued to expand, with subsequent waves introducing new characters, vehicles, and playsets. It evolved into a comprehensive collection that appealed to avid collectors and adventurous youngsters.

Bio: I am the founder and owner of Wheeljack’s Lab pop Culture and Toy Shop. My vision has always been to reunite customers with their favorite childhood toys and pop culture, triggering fond memories, and reigniting their imaginations. Every day, I work in the “lab” where it’s Christmas 365 days a year. I scour the internet, like when we had the Sears Catalog of yesteryear, for the next great treasure. Then, I await the arrival of the postman as if he were Santa Claus himself and helping collectors worldwide with their versions of Christmas. Every day as a vintage toy buyer is an absolute joy!
